Reading and Tracking
People who read a lot in many genres usually have a larger vocabulary than those who do not read so much. But even if you are a bookworm, you might not be getting the most from your reading.
Most people simply read a book understanding the story or information but ignoring words they are unsure of. They probably think that it's not such a big deal because they can decipher the overall sense of what they're reading anyway. But if you take the time to read and understand all the words, you will have a tremendously improved vocabulary.
To make the most of your reading, there are two things you can do every time you encounter a strange word. The first is to try to figure out the meaning of the word from the context. This can usually be easily accomplished, but even if you think you have figured out the right definition, don’t stop there.
The next step to take is to check the real meaning of the word in a dictionary, or in a vocabulary software program like Ultimate Vocabulary. You may also choose to collect a few words first in a list and then look them all up at the same time.
Broaden your reading horizons
While it's definitely more interesting to read on topics that you actually like, it is also useful to read other material from time to time. You will not only learn new words, but gain a lot of general information as well. You can also participate in more conversations with different people if you have a wider knowledge.
Ultimate Vocabulary boosts your reading experience
Vocabulary software programs do not have features to improve your reading, you'll have to this part on your own. What they do help you with is in the recording of unfamiliar words. Most vocabulary software programs, such as Ultimate Vocabulary, allow you to make a list of unfamiliar words. Ultimate Vocabulary even allows you to make titles for your list like "Words from technical books" or "Words from romance novels" and so on.
This vocabulary software program not only keeps your words in a list. It also gives you the meanings and other information and related words.
When you come across a new word, add it to the list. Use Ultimate Vocabulary 's exercises, tests and features to teach you the words. Ultimate Vocabulary also has other features to make you learn your wordlist faster.
